“The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament” (CCC 1601).
“Those who are married are bound by the special obligation, in accordance with their own vocation, to strive for the building up of the people of God through their marriage and family” (Can. 226 §1).
A Catholic has the privilege and obligation to marry another Catholic. For a sufficient reason, the Bishop may grant a dispensation from this obligation.
Please meet with the Parish Priest at least six months prior to a planned wedding, and contact him at any time with a question you may have about a marriage.
