Saint Catherine Catholic Church is committed to protecting God’s children. Thus, we follow the Policy of the Diocese of Charleston for protecting children and the related Code of Conduct. All clergy and staff, and all volunteers who will be working around children under age 18, must comply with the Safe Environment Program.
We welcome new volunteers to share their time and talent in the service of the Lord and His people. Under the Policy, in order to work with children a volunteer must be 18 years old or older. The first step is to contact the Parish Office to begin the process of training and documentation.
In short, there are four requirements for each volunteer prior to beginning their volunteer work with minors:
1. Virtus Training. Go to Virtus.org to register for any free Training Session for the Diocese of Charleston (and, when registering at that Web site, be sure to select this Diocese). Once you have attended a Virtus Session, bring a copy of your attendance Certificate to the St. Catherine Parish Office.
2. Background Screening. Fill out an application for Background Screening, which is available in the Parish Office and online, and bring it to the St. Catherine Parish Office for completion.
3. Read the Safe Environment Policy, which is available in the St. Catherine Parish Office and online, and sign and return the “Acknowledgement of Receipt of the Policy” (at the back of that document) to the Parish Office.
4. Read the “Code of Conduct,” which is available in the St. Catherine Parish Office and online, and sign and return the signature page to the Parish Office.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering and for supporting our Safe Environment Program and God’s children!
